Sewerage Board of Nicosia

The Sewerage Board of Nicosia was established in 1971. Its main objective was the construction, operation and maintenance of the Sewerage System of Nicosia.
The first three stages of design and construction of the Nicosia Sewerage System were based on the conditions and needs prevailing in 1970’s.
Construction of the Greater Nicosia Sewerage System began in 2003 and finished by the year 2012. It includes the design and installation of 1050 km of main sewers, 500 km of private house connections to the system, 7 main pumping stations, 30 km of force mains and two new Sewage Treatment Plants.
The central sewerage system aims to improve the quality of life and protect public health and the environment. Some of the benefits of the central sewerage system include:

  • Protection of the environment.
  • Water reuse.
  • Economic development and tourism.

At this moment SBN’s staff counts 60 people, 30 of which are in the Technical Department, 15 in the Financial Department and 15 in the Maintenance Department.
